Unit 2: Numbers to 1000
We have been reviewing basic number strategies, how to write numbers, place value, expanded form and using base ten blocks. We have also been working with the 100 chart, looking for all the different patterns and practicing filling in the blanks.
Students realize that using groups of ten or hundreds to count large collections is much faster and easier. To demonstrate this to them, I said we had to count to 100 before we could go outside for recess. We started by ones and when we got to 23 and made a mistake, we had to start all over again. Students were quick to tell me to grab the tens and use them to count instead! We had a good laugh after we picked up the 100 block and went outside right away!
